0019 Osdorp Town Houses, Amsterdam, NL
In Osdorp, Netherlands, this existing row of houses has been replaced by an optimised modern version of the terraced house. In order to build as many houses as possible, the grid was reduced to a minimum according to the governing regulations. As a result, the houses become quite deep, accomplishing the surface area required by the client. As a side effect, the facade, generally the most expensive part of a building, is also reduced in relation to the surface – and thus cheap cubic metres are created. In order to bring in enough daylight, the openings have been maximised. Moreover, an innovative concept has been developed for the outside spaces of the building. On the rear side of each unit, space for storage and cars is integrated on the ground floor. The accessing street is covered by terraces on the first floor.
