0100 De Harmonie, Antwerp, BE
Atelier Kempe Thill won in 2010 the invited international competition for the transformation of Antwerps’ former 19th century concert hall “De Harmonie” and its park. All façades and the structure of this classicist building have been restored in their old glory. Missing historical parts have been replaced by new elements in a contemporary interpretation. Various technical improvements have been realized to adapt the building to new low-energy, climate and acoustical standards. The redesign of the surrounding historic park and the reconstruction of a fountain by Henri Van de Velde were part of the project. The transformed building hosts the local city authority, a restaurant and a venue suitable for different kind op events.
