0100 De Harmonie, Antwerp, BE
In 2010 Atelier Kempe Thill won the invited international competition for the transformation of Antwerps’ former 19th century concert hall “De Harmonie”. The transformed building will be used as the new district town hall including an assembly hall, offices and spaces for several public services. By carefully restoring the structure in its original state, the historic glory of the former concert hall will be brought back. Missing historical parts will be replaced by new elements in a contemporary interpretation. Various technical improvements are being realized to adapt the building to new low-energy, climate and acoustical standards. Part of the project is the sensitive redesign of the surrounding historic park and the reconstruction of a fountain by Henri Van de Velde.
