0195 Herkenrode site, Hasselt, BE
The Herkenrode site is located in the historic city centre of Hasselt, and served for a long time as a military site. After the army left, the complex fulfilled various functions for the federal government. Now it is in the process of being reconverted into a sustainable lively quarter. The Abscis Architects, Atelier Kempe Thill and UAU collectiv team is planning a diverse and sustainable housing project that shows great respect to the historical context and aims at connecting a wide range of people to the town of Hasselt. The buildings on the edge of the site will be partly renewed. Inside these walls lays a courtyard, a green oasis where residents and visitors can relax. This is where, in the heart of the development, Atelier Kempe Thill introduces a new urban villa .
